Marrakech Dress Code Guide

What to wear and what to avoid. Look great, feel confident, and get into every venue without hassle.

The Basics

Golden Rules

Smart Casual

The minimum standard for evening venues

Dress to Impress

When in doubt, go dressier

No Sportswear

Leave the trainers and tracksuits

No Flip-Flops

Beach wear stays at the pool

Men's Guide

What Men Should Wear

Do Wear

Trousers

Chinos, smart trousers, or well-fitted dark jeans. Lighter linen trousers work in summer.

Shirts

Collared shirts (dress or polo), smart t-shirts in premium fabrics. Linen shirts are perfect for the climate.

Shoes

Loafers, smart brogues, clean leather shoes. Clean white sneakers can work at some venues.

Finishing Touches

A watch, blazer for cooler evenings, or quality belt elevates the look.

Don't Wear

Shorts

Unless it's a daytime rooftop with a pool, leave shorts at the hotel.

Sportswear

No tracksuits, sports jerseys, or athletic wear. This isn't the gym.

Trainers

Especially not running shoes or bulky sneakers. Some venues are strict.

Flip-Flops/Sandals

Never at evening venues. Save them for the pool.

Women's Guide

What Women Should Wear

Evening / Clubs

Dresses

Cocktail dresses, midi dresses, or chic minis. Whatever you'd wear to a nice London bar.

Separates

Nice tops with trousers or skirts. Jumpsuits work well. Elevated casual is fine.

Shoes

Heels, wedges, or strappy sandals. Smart flats are fine too - comfort matters on dance floors.

Accessories

Jewelry, clutch bags, statement earrings. Marrakech is a great place to shop for unique pieces.

Daytime / Medina

Cultural Respect

In the Medina and traditional areas, covering shoulders and knees shows respect. A light scarf is useful.

Rooftops & Pools

Daytime rooftop bars in Gueliz are more relaxed. Sundresses, shorts, and swimwear (at pool clubs) are fine.

Transitional Pieces

Maxi dresses and kaftans are perfect - modest enough for the Medina, elegant enough for dinner.

Practical Tips

Flat shoes for the Medina's cobbled streets. Sunglasses and a hat for daytime.

The Simple Rule

In Gueliz and Hivernage (where The Mix Marrakech is), dress as you would for a nice night out in any European city. The tourist/modern areas are much more relaxed than the Medina.

By Venue

Dress Code by Venue Type

The Mix Marrakech

Restaurant Lounge
Smart Casual

Dress to impress. It's a restaurant that becomes a party - look like you're going somewhere nice. Smart jeans OK, no sportswear.

Nightclubs

Theatro, SO Lounge, etc.
Dressy

More formal than The Mix. Collared shirts required for men. Women dress up. Door staff can be selective.

Rooftop Bars

Sunset venues, pool bars
Smart Casual / Casual

More relaxed during the day. Evening rooftops still expect smart casual. Pool clubs allow swimwear by day.

Hotel Bars

La Mamounia, Royal Mansour
Smart / Elegant

5-star hotel bars expect elegance. Think cocktail attire. These are prestigious venues.

Cocktail Bars

Baromètre, Kechmara
Smart Casual

Relaxed but still put-together. Clean sneakers might be OK here. Definitely no flip-flops or sportswear.

Fine Dining

Upscale restaurants
Smart Casual+

Nice restaurants in Gueliz expect you to look good. Not formal, but definitely presentable.

Top Tips

Pack Light Colors

Marrakech is hot. White, cream, and light colors keep you cooler and look great against the red city backdrop.

Bring Layers

Desert climate means cool evenings. A light jacket or blazer is useful, especially in winter months.

Shop Local

The souks have amazing kaftans, leather goods, and jewelry. Pick up something unique for your nights out.

Comfort Matters

You'll be walking and dancing. Choose shoes you can move in. The Mix Marrakech has a dancefloor you'll want to use.

Ready to Dress Up?

Book your table at The Mix. Smart casual minimum - but really, it's an excuse to look amazing.
