Why Gueliz?

I've been DJing in Gueliz for over 10 years, and here's what tourists don't get: this is where Marrakech actually lives. The Medina is beautiful but it's for sightseeing. Hivernage is premium clubs designed for rich tourists. Gueliz? This is where local 20-somethings meet their friends. Where expats grab Friday drinks.

The bars here have personality. Kechmara isn't just a rooftop - it's an art gallery that happens to serve killer cocktails. The Mix (where I DJ) transforms from Mediterranean restaurant to UK Garage party every Thursday.

Local Insight: If you want Instagram-worthy bottle service, go to Hivernage. But if you want to actually experience how Marrakech parties when the tourists aren't looking? Spend your nights in Gueliz.

Where I DJ

Full disclosure: this is my home. Every Thursday I host Ladies Night here, and it's become the spot for UK Garage, Afrobeats, and Soul in Marrakech. But even when I'm not behind the decks, The Mix nails what Gueliz nightlife is about.

Gueliz Nightlife FAQs

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Gueliz in Marrakech?

Gueliz is Marrakech's "New City" - the modern district built during French colonial times. European-style boulevards, international restaurants, and a more relaxed, Westernized nightlife scene. Think of it as the opposite of the Medina.

Is Gueliz better than Hivernage for nightlife?

Different vibes. Hivernage is premium clubs - Vegas-style, expensive, strict dress code. Gueliz is local bars, rooftop lounges, live music - more affordable, relaxed, and where Marrakech residents actually go out.

How do I get to Gueliz from the Medina?

Petit taxi: 5-10 minutes, 15-25 MAD. From Jemaa el-Fna, it's 2km. You can walk it in 25-30 minutes along Avenue Mohammed V (safe, well-lit).

What are Gueliz nightlife prices like?

Much more affordable than Hivernage. Bars: no entry fee, cocktails 50-80 MAD, beers 30-50 MAD. Dinner: 150-300 MAD per person. Total night out: £20-40 vs £60-100+ in Hivernage.

Is Gueliz safe at night?

Very safe. Well-lit, policed, and designed for pedestrians. I walk these streets every week after midnight. Just use normal city common sense.
